Fuller is usually inside the Guthrie Theater this time of year, so he hasn’t seen the early dusk of December for more than three decades. We’ll be doing a family Zoom call and mailing our gifts.”Īnd King did want to make it clear that while he has left the state, Miss Richfield 1981 is staying put. “We’re not going to get together in person. “This will be the first one without my mom, so we were already anticipating things would be different,” he said. “And emotionally, it’s good to be busy.”Īs for the rest of December, when he’s not working, King will be adjusting to living with his partner. “I’m making enough money to survive,” he said. King said it’s been great to have income, even if it’s a fraction of what he’d normally earn. (See for ticket details.) Russ King, aka Miss Richfield, started online bingo games during the pandemic. For the holidays, he has developed a new at-home show, “Miss Richfield’s Guide to a Socially Diseased Holiday,” which he started streaming this week, with shows remaining Dec. Over the summer, King also did a series of 32 parking lot shows in Provincetown, Mass., about half the number he’d typically perform. “It takes five of us to do it, and I don’t handle any of the tech stuff. “It took about a month to settle into a good, solid format,” he said. The bingo games have been drawing 250 to 350 players weekly, with hundreds more joining in simply to watch. With the help of a small tech crew, he’s kept it going and his 41st bingo night took place this week, during his last night living in Minnesota. Once things shut down in March, he started hosting online bingo every Monday night. Indeed, King has managed to keep busy through the pandemic. But COVID pushed the relocation back to the summer and then the fall and, ultimately, this week. King had plans to move to Delaware, into the home of his long-distance partner, in the spring. Russ King performs as Miss Richfield 1981. It wasn’t a surprise to King and his family, as her health had been fading for years. For Christmas, he would gather with his extended family for a large celebration focused around his mother.
